About Us
We are the only USDA licensed pet store in Pinellas County. We have an educational exotic room with two-toed sloths, prehensile tailed porcupines, an agouti paca, and a domestic skunk. We also have a variety of exotic animals for sale from baby marmosets to anacondas.
HISTORY
Larry inherited his dad's love for animals. There were pets in the house as far back as Larry can remember. When Larry was in elementary school, he caught & kept all kinds of critters from turtles to snakes, and that was just the beginning.
Larry pursued his love for animals and in 1985, Larry, his wife, Kathy, and their friends, Steve and Linda, bought their first store and named it Pet Safari.
When it started Pet Safari was about 900 square feet. It had about 10 aquariums, a dozen or so birds, a few rodents, a grooming room just big enough to turn around in, and a small selection of food and supplies. But most importantly, it had a couple of excited, motivated new owners!
Since that time, Pet Safari has moved once and expanded three times!
Larry and Kathy bought out Steve and Linda in 2001. (They all are still friends. Steve and Linda own a store in Clearwater.)
The third expansion began in the early part of 2002. Now Pet Safari is 4200 square feet, 50 - plus aquariums, 50 - plus birds, one of the best and largest selections of reptiles in the area, variety of small animals, puppies, kittens, and a large selection of pet foods & supplies.
