Live Web Cam

One of Pet Safari's most unique features is the adventure outpost. This exotic room is home to (3) two-toed sloths, (1) domestic skunk, (2) agouti pacas, and (2) white-tufted marmoset monkeys. All the animals in the Adventure Outpost are not for sale and used for education only.

The sloths and agouti pacas are from the rainforest of Guyana in South America. Closely related to guinea pigs, agouti pacas are the second largest rodents in South America. Agouti pacas are also hunted in Guyana for their tasty meat. Two-toed sloths are slow moving mammals that live in trees. Sloths spend ninety percent of their time upside down. The part of the rainforest that these animals came from has been cut down for lumber and no longer exists. Take this oppurtunity to see these rainforest animals up close, while considering the fact that 1.5 acres of our world's rainforests are destroyed each second.

Pet Safari has three sloths: Blondie, Baby and Scarface. On Sunday March 22, 2009, Blondie gave birth.
It was quite a surprise when the baby sloth was discovered on Blondie. Not only because it was unknown that she was pregnant, but because when the sloths first arrived it was assumed that Blondie and Scarface were boys. This is why the baby sloth was named Surprise. As it turns out only Scarface is a male.
Sloths breeding in captivity is so rare that Surprise was featured in the St. Pete Times, Tampa Tribune, TBT, Channel 8 news, Fox news and others. After one year Surprise was adopted from Pet Safari. It came at just the right time, because when baby sloths mature mother sloths chase them away. You can view a short video and pictures of Surprise below.

Feeding time for the exotic animals is between 4pm-6pm. This is the best time to see these animals awake. Educational shows are available to groups. During these shows we have a Pet Safari team member bring animals to you, or your group can get a guided tour through the store. Call now for more information (727-733-6641).
